kumo temari

I stitch Japanese temari, and you can view my primary blog on blogger to see all the photos and read all about them, with some more insight into my process. But WordPress has many advantages, so I'm also posting images of temari here, starting with 2012. Besides, this blog ties in nicely with my WordPress blog of artwork, kumo means cloud.

what are temari?

Temari (singular and plural) are handmade thread-wrapped & embroidered spheres that were originally created as toys for children (and adults). They originated in China, and were later brought to Japan — possibly by Buddhist monks. Over time temari have evolved into a highly-prized exquisite form of folk art.

Kumo Temari each include a handwritten quote in the core, and each temari is one of a kind.

do you sell temari?

Yep, I sell select temari in my shop on etsy.com. Proceeds of all sales loan funds to low-income entrepreneurs around the world through the micro-financing site Kiva.org.

new temari notification

If you'd like to get an e-mail when a new temari is added to the Etsy shop, you can sign up here. To be confirmed for the list you'll need to reply to an e-mail sent from Mad Mimi via my e-mail address — check your spam folder if you don't get it in your inbox as it will probably end up there. You will only receive an e-mail when a new temari is added to the shop; you can unsubscribe at any time; and your e-mail is confidential and will never be shared.
